Differential access to higher education: the measurement of socioeconomic status, rurality and isolation

This report examines and evaluates suitable and practicable methods other than postcode methodology of identifying students of higher education from low socioeconomic, rural and isolated groups. Past approaches to the identification of such persons are reviewed; current measurement methods adopted by the Department of Employment, Education, Training and Youth Affairs (DEETYA) and individual higher education institutions are examined; and new methods are developed.
