Non/working lives: implications of 'non-standard work practices' for literacy and numeracy
This report details research into communication practices in non standard work contexts. Five case studies were conducted which involved 'non standard workers' drawn from those effected by casualisation and out sourcing, telecommuting, multiples jobs and 'portfolio work'. The research indicated that basic skills (such as communication skills) are not transferred but re-contextualised by new forms of situated learning and that the terms 'generic' and 'transfer' are therefore misleading.
