This document summarises the work of the Learning and Skills Research Centre (LSRC) in reviewing, assessing and developing models of research impact for the learning and skills sector in England and Wales. It examines the following: models that conceptualise research use; criteria for judging effective practices; realistic measures of research impact; characteristics of effective practices; and contextual issues: barriers and enablers. The work involved case studies, workshops and a literature review. In total, 5,800 references were identified and sourced, with 750 examined in full, and 341 undergoing detailed analysis. Five organisations gave interviews and documentary evidence for case studies into practices for maximising research impact. In the latter stages of the project, workshops were held to test findings and emergent conclusions against the knowledge of people from the sector. Show less
