This report provides a review and synthesis of available literature on apprenticeships in the US and 17 other selected industrialised market economies. It focuses on improvements to apprenticeships in the following areas: quality of training; administration; expansion; cost-effectiveness; financing; access; and role and relationship to other training. In each of these areas, the report highlights deficiencies in the US apprenticeship system and practices that may address the problems identified.
