This report addresses the need for co-operation between educational institutions and enterprises in preparing people for, and maintaining them within, the world of work. Its content is drawn from an international 1995 seminar entitled ‘Co-operation between education institutions and enterprises in technical and vocational education’ that took place in Berlin. The participants in the seminar reported on relevant developments in their countries and regions. The five parts of the report are titled: (1) Introduction; (2) Co-operation between educational institutions and enterprises in technical and vocational education: African experiences; (3) Dual, co-operative training systems - an alternative for advanced developing countries in Asia?; (4) International co-operation - contributions of international and German experts; (5) Conclusions and recommendations from the African group. This edition of the UNEVOC Forum provides a snapshot of the UNESCO-UNEVOC virtual conference that took place from 22 October to 10 November 2007. The email- and Internet-based conference, which focussed on technical and vocational education and training (TVET) for a sustainable future, attracted 106 TVET experts from 49 countries around the world. Thirty-five participants were from Africa, three from the Arab States, 31 from the Asia-Pacific region, 29 from Europe/North America, and eight from Latin America. Two broad topics for discussion at the virtual conference were proposed by a background paper that aimed to set the scene: TVET content change for SD (new frameworks, attitudes and values relevant to SD, as well as the introduction of SD concepts and strategies in TVET); and sustainability of TVET. A third topic was introduced by the participants: the impact of TVET on 'individual sustainability' (poverty alleviation) and the social and economic sustainability of communities. The many voices from the different world regions created a vibrant and lively image of the issues, concerns, good practices, and resources available on TVET and SD. The participants offered different perspectives that highlighted the complexity of SD and humanity's shared responsibility to ensure a sustainable future.

This is the final report of the International Advisory Committee (second session) of UNESCO's International Project on Technical and Vocational Education (UNEVOC), which was held in Paris from 12-14 December 1994. The report briefly details the activities of the Committee, listing contributing organisations. Activities of regional offices and cooperation with United Nations (UN) specialised intergovernmental and non-governmental organisations are briefly described. There is a discussion of future strategies of UNESCO's International Project on Technical and Vocational Education (UNEVOC) with the following observations from the participants on the main objectives: the importance of fostering the international exchange of experiences; the importance of studies on policy issues; the need for strengthening of national research and development capabilities; and the facilitation of access to relevant databases and other information sources.
