The objectives of this international consultation meeting were: to identify major issues and priorities in the formulation of technical and vocational education (TVE) policies and strategies; and to propose guidelines and format for future regional case studies. Participants attended from the Member States of Australia, Egypt, France, Italy, Germany, Hungary, Kenya, the Republic of Korea and Nigeria. This report provides a summary of: country reports focusing mainly on the major considerations essential to the development of TVE in that country; the discussion of issues relevant to the role of TVE in educational systems and the process of socio-economic development in each Member State; and the guidelines and format for the series of future case studies to be undertaken in various regions, to determine the role of TVE and form the basis for a report on the global situation. This is the final report of the International Advisory Committee (first session) of UNESCO's International Project on Technical and Vocational Education (UNEVOC), which was held in Berlin from 20-22 September 1993. The report briefly detailed the activities of the Committee, listing contributing organisations. Program areas were defined: (1)Improving the attractiveness and status of technical and vocational education and training (TVET) within education systems; (2) Fostering links between TVET and the labour market; and (3) TVET system development. In August 1992 the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) launched the International Project on Technical and Vocational Education (UNEVOC), an international project aimed at developing and improving technical and vocational education. This document reports on a workshop which was part of the UNEVOC workplan for 1993. The aims of the workshop were: to review and analyse the existing practices in the design, implementation and evaluation of curriculum particularly in the development of competency based curriculum; and to identify some common trends and successful practices based on the experiences of the workshop participants.
