As everyone who works in the area of Pacific Islands education and training knows only too well, accessing literature directly or indirectly related to this subject is fraught with difficulties and limitations. This publication was initiated to provide those interested or working in Pacific Islands education and training with a tool to gain easier access to the scattered but growing body of literature in this area. Like all bibliographies this one contains references from a variety of sources. However, it would be wrong to assume that it contains a full and comprehensive list of references on Pacific Islands education and training. References were purposefully selected for their relevance to adult education and training for Pacific Island people. Some references have also been included as have international references which the researchers felt held significance for Pacific Islands education and training.

The bibliography is focused on Pacific Islands people living in New Zealand. The six main groups resident in New Zealand are: Western Samoa, Cook Islands, Tonga, Niue, Fiji and Tokelau. The articles cover a wide range of views. A distinction is made between general education and training (which usually refers to what goes on at school during the period of compulsory education) and more specific training and employment related matters in the post-compulsory schooling period.
