International medical graduate (IMG) specialists in anaesthesia need education to be part of the assessment process for pre-registration college fellowship. Fellowship of the anaesthetic college is required in Australia for registration as a specialist in this field. Marked differences exist between local trainees and IMG specialists in terms of training, stakes of the exam and isolation of practice. We have examined the reasons for the low pass rate for IMG specialists compared to the local trainees in the Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists (ANZCA) final fellowship examinations. We also offer an IMG specialists' view of this perceived problem. It highlights their difficulties in obtaining adequate supervision and education.

This draft country background report on the recognition of non-formal and informal learning in Ireland has been completed as part of an OECD activity on the ‘Recognition of Non-formal and informal learning’ (2006-2008) in which Ireland participates. The report was drafted in 2006/07 by the National Qualifications Authority of Ireland with the assistance of an Advisory Group and, in particular, the Higher Education and Training Awards Council and the Further Education and Training Awards Council. The aim of this report is to document and review the current scenario with regard to the recognition of prior informal and non-formal learning insofar as it relates to qualifications. It describes in detail the existing policy with regard to the recognition of prior informal and non-formal learning and the technical and procedural arrangements that have been put in place by Irish institutions and other actors in the area to facilitate such recognition. This focus is in line with the Irish national policy approach to the Recognition of Prior Learning and the development and implementation of the Irish National Framework of Qualifications.

Since 2007, the Department of Education's Early School Leavers survey has captured information about the post-school journey of students who leave school early. Almost 163,000 students were enrolled in Years 10-12 in Queensland schools at the start of 2017. Of these, 9587 left school prior to completing the year and were invited to complete the Early School Leavers survey. The 4765 respondents are included in this report. Findings: 65.5 per cent of school leavers were engaged in education, training or employment; the single most important reason for leaving school was to get a job/apprenticeship; and 56.2 per cent of early school leavers were in paid employment.

The publication of this Green Paper marks the beginning of further discussions on the nature, direction and organisation of the Further education and training (FET) sector, which until now has been characterised by inefficiency, fragmentation and variable levels of quality. Chapter one makes the point that further education and training is crucial to South Africa’s development. It sketches the process that has led up to the publication of this paper and sets the scene for the policy proposals that follow. Chapter two explains why change to FET is essential. FET must respond to rising social demands and to new local and international economic realities. Chapter three introduces the key features of a new FET policy framework geared for the twenty first century. The chapter concludes by summarising the key implications of this new framework for curriculum and qualifications, governance, legislation, institutional and staff development, and funding and implementation. These implications are further elaborated in chapters four to six. Chapter seven briefly describes the structures and activities that the Department of Education will establish and initiate when implementing the proposed framework. Show less

The Next Step Longitudinal study builds upon the annual Next Step survey, which has been conducted by the Department of Education and Training (DET) since 2005. The Next Step Longitudinal study informs understanding of longer term social and economic outcomes of the educational system and supplements the 'point-in-time' information provided by the annual Next Step survey. The 2014 Next Step Longitudinal study documents the study and work pathways that this group of young people have taken in the four years since completing school. Findings show that four years after completing Year 12: the majority of young people (91.8 per cent) were studying or in paid employment at the time of the survey; Bachelor Degree or higher programs were being undertaken by 38.1 per cent of young people; campus-based VET programs were being completed by 8.3 per cent of young people; employment-based training accounted for 11.1 per cent of young people, either in apprenticeships (9.1 per cent) or traineeships (2.0 per cent); full-time work, with no education or training, accounted for 22.7 per cent of young people with a further 11.6 per cent undertaking part-time work; the remaining 8.2 per cent of young people were either seeking work (5.2 per cent) or not in the labour force, education or training (3.0 per cent).

This report was commissioned by the MEC for Gauteng, compiled by the National Business Initiative and its preparation funded by DANIDA.
The first part of the report is in five chapters. Chapter 1 provides an introduction and overview of the changes in education and training policies in South Africa. The purpose of the report is to inform policy decisions; to assist the colleges to understand more about their work and to position themselves for future developments; to help employers appreciate the scale and potential of the colleges; and to contribute to wider public debate and discussion about the future of education and training. Chapter two outlines the methodology of the most comprehensive and detailed analysis of technical colleges to be completed. Chapter three provides an overview of the colleges focusing on trends and patterns such as: the number, type and location of the colleges; college staff; college students; the funding of colleges; college performance; courses and programmes; college governance; image, ethos and management styles; links between organisations; and a critical summary. Chapter four provides the context and issues to be addressed with Chapter five offering recommendations that reflect a number of themes that emerged during the project.
The second part of the report provides a qualitative overview of the data drawn from the field visits to 20 colleges, as well as information extracted from the questionnaire that was sent to 33 colleges. The qualitative insights are based on interviews with management teams, staff members, students and external stakeholders as well as observations made during tours of the college campuses. Observations have also been extracted from the detailed case studies of the colleges that were visited as well as from the debriefing sessions that were conducted with the field researchers. At the end of the section detailed appendices are provided which present the following data for each college: educator posts on the establishment for each college, March 1998; headcounts and FTEs by field of study in each college; and success rate analysis for each college (1997). This publication provides an overview of the delivery of apprenticeships in Korea's secondary education system. The opening chapter provides background information on the introduction of the apprenticeship program along with latest developments and its current operating status. Chapter two examines the operating system and types of apprenticeship program, the roles and systems of relevant institutions, administrative and financial support for participants, and the conditions for training companies. Chapter three describes the development of courses, teaching and learning procedures and models for apprenticeship, and capacity development training for staff of schools and training companies. Chapter four focuses on outcomes in relation to the satisfaction of companies and apprentices, the training maintenance rate of companies and apprentices, the employment rate of graduates, and graduates' participation in P-TECH. Pathways in Technical Education-Oriented Convergent High-Technology (P-TECH) refers to work-based learning (WBL) for developing high-level skills. It consists of intermediate and advanced training courses operated in association with polytechnic universities and junior colleges for apprenticeship program graduates. Trainees receive on-the-job training at their companies during the daytime and off-the-job training at nearby joint training centers on weekends and at night. The appendices contain a list of schools operating the apprenticeship program, [Coronavirus Disease 2019] COVID-19 response measures, and interviews of participants.
