Environmental scan 2015: sport, fitness and recreation

Environmental scans analyse existing and emerging trends in the service industries, focusing on their implications for workforce development. They form a key piece of advice to the government on skill shortages, broader workforce development needs and the context for the continuous improvement of training packages. The development of these annual scans is informed by consultation with industry and additional research. They contain the following information: latest industry intelligence; identified workforce development needs for the service industries; current impact of Service Skills Australia's training packages, including enrolment and completion figures; future direction of training packages; service industry skills shortages and occupations in demand. This environmental scan highlights an increasingly diverse population which demands equally diverse approaches to participation. This will require new products and workers with new skills. People are busier, which makes it harder for them to find the time to volunteer like they used to. At the same time the requirement that sport, fitness and recreation be delivered in an ever more professional way means even volunteers need greater professional development, and some roles that used to be filled by volunteers now need professionals.
