National Indigenous Higher Education Workforce Strategy

This strategy has been developed by the Indigenous Higher Education Advisory Council (IHEAC) in response to the challenges faced by Aboriginal and Torres Islander people in the higher education sector. It is being developed to aid universities in developing their Indigenous Employment Strategies and Indigenous employment targets. The overall aim of the strategy is to bring the number and dispersion of Indigenous employees within the higher education sector to population parity within 10 years. To address this IHEAC has worked with Universities Australia to develop a set of mutually-agreed key actions which seek to build an Indigenous higher education workforce. These actions contribute to five core objectives: (1) enhance employment pathways for existing Indigenous employees; (2) increase new employment opportunities for Indigenous people; (3) development of a working environment appropriate to the needs of Indigenous people; (4) community engagement and outreach; and (5) effective implementation of the strategy.
