Skill shortages in the construction industry

Construction is a skilled industry with nearly half the workers in the industry in Australia holding qualifications at Certificate III or IV or Diploma or Advanced Diploma level. Construction activity varies from state to state and consequently demand for workers and skills varies. Employers are experiencing less difficulty in recruiting currently than they did in 2007 and 2008. Currently shortages exist for constructions project managers, civil engineers, surveyors, quantity surveyors, construction estimators. Regional areas are short on electricians and some engineering trades.
