The 2018 World Congress was organized by TAFE Directors Australia with the support of the Victorian TAFE Association and students and faculty of Melbourne's TAFEs. The three-day World Congress was one of Australia's largest gatherings of education and skills leaders, with almost 140 speakers and 44 concurrent sessions, under the theme of Preparing for the Skills Future, Now. Speakers and presenters explored the changing nature of work with particular focus on the impact of advances in technologies and automation on [professional and technical education and training] PTET. The World Congress focussed on solutions to these challenges and provided an opportunity for international delegates to look at their own PTET systems from the outside and compare their readiness to that of other countries.

The Southern Queensland Institute of TAFE (SQIT) provides a broad range of training courses to learners in diverse locations. It is also regarded as one of the most progressive TAFE institutes in Queensland with a significant growth in training activity over the past year, particularly in information technology, rural and building areas. SQIT has also been involved in videostreaming, an innovative online delivery method using a combination of video conferencing and online technologies to enhance student access to programs. Other achievements are highlighted, including technology upgrading, participation in programs to assist employment outcomes of young people in regional areas, and working with industry to provide training tailored to localised industry needs. This book contributes to the debate over the relationship between education, innovation, work and the workforce. The acute concerns around rising unemployment in a global recession have sharpened focus on how we prepare young people for the rapidly changing world of work. The book highlights 15 case studies from around the world. It is hoped that together they may inspire wider adoption of their innovative practices.

This occasional paper, the fourteenth in the series, brings together papers and summaries of presentations from the 2015 TAFE Directors Australia national conference, INSPIRE, which was held at The Grand Chancellor Hotel, Hobart from 9–11 September. The presentations included topics related to industry engagement; a market approach to vocational education and training (VET); quality and accountability, diversity of higher education providers, internationalising vocational education qualifications; emerging technologies, and Australia's partnerships with countries abroad. Technical and vocational education and training (TVET) is particularly important for promoting economic development, expanding employment size and improving the quality of employment. This paper presents a perspective on the development of TVET. To fit present social and economic developments, vocational school and industry enterprises cooperation is one of the most effective methods for vocational education. Training the skills-based teachers is the important guarantee for the development of vocational education. The information and communication technology (ICT) has provided a wide variety of activities and experiences that support vocational education. The reform will make the TVET more and more sensitive to social and economic changes and demands.

The special focus of the 5th International VET Conference Crossing Boundaries held on 25-26 May 2023 at Vytautas Magnus University in Kaunas, Lithuania, is on 'vocational education and training transformations for a digital, sustainable and socially fair future'. The Korea Research Institute for Vocational Education and Training (KRIVET) holds an annual workshop to contribute to international perspectives on technical and vocational education and training (TVET). The theme of this year's workshop was 'Beyond new normal, towards the transition: TVET for resilience'. The workshop took place over two consecutive days (September 28-29, 2022) and consisted of four sessions - namely (1) Innovation and future of TVET, (2) Linking skills development and labor market, (3) Lifelong TVET, and (4) Green TVET. With these four subtopics, which were carefully selected based on the survey results from regional member states, KRIVET intended not only to discuss recent TVET events, ideas, policies, and best practices but also to strengthen the network among UNESCO-UNEVOC Centres in the East and Southeast Asia.

Blue Skies is intended to provide a non-partisan platform for debate, presenting a wide range of different opinions about the issues and priorities that matter to the future of higher education. Under the Zhejiang Action Plan for Made in China 2025, Zhejiang is actively promoting equipment updates, industrial upgrading, and business format innovation. The workers in labor-intensive manufacturing sectors are increasingly being replaced by robots. This trend requires employees to develop high-quality technical skills. Now more than ever, vocational colleges should cooperate with industries, research institutions, and regional enterprises in research, development and upgrading of products for small and micro enterprises in Zhejiang.

Innovation and education requires research and production. Zhejiang Institute of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering (ZIME) is taking initiative by training skilled, innovative professionals for regional industry development. ZIME, one of the best vocational colleges in Zhejiang, is working toward better developing its vocational education system, keeping it in line with the national innovation development plan.

[This report] investigates the extent to which the skills taught in education systems around the world are changing, and whether they meet the needs of employers and society more widely. To shed light on these issues, The [Economist Intelligence Unit] EIU convened an advisory board meeting of education experts and conducted four global surveys of senior business executives, teachers and two groups of students, aged 11 to 17 and 18 to 25.
