This paper is about a case study of school-enterprise cooperation through which vocational school established partnership with suppliers by purchasing their facilities, and exploited and practiced project teaching by both parties working together in developing new products. Students learned through a real work process within the school education system, acquired competence and gained relevant experiences. Besides, teachers' professional competency was developed in the meantime enterprises made profits.

Coordination mechanisms between technical and vocational education and training (TVET) and enterprises in different economic sectors are eminently important for the relevance of TVET to both employers and job seekers. Such mechanisms, linkages and ‘bridges’ between training providers and companies cannot follow one uniform design or format under different economic, social and cultural circumstances. In addition, there are a multitude of stakeholders in training, with varying and sometimes conflicting interests, objectives and priorities; and these stakeholders are not the same in every country. In 2007, the Vietnamese General Directorate for Vocational Training (GDVT) organized a workshop in order to establish closer links between training providers and companies in the various sectors of the Vietnamese economy. One of the leading ideas was to scrutinize the Vietnamese experiences and examine them against those in neighbouring countries which have some cultural features in common with Vietnam: Thailand, the Peoples’ Republic of China and the Republic of Korea. In addition, experts from a country well-reputed for linking company- and school-based TVET, namely Germany, were invited, which enabled the participants of the workshop to take part in a captivating dialogue between different cultures about the varying approaches and the solutions found in the Asian and European contexts. This offered food for thought about what TVET in Vietnam might ideally look like.

Industry school partnerships have emerged recently in Australia as a policy solution for the management of problems associated with integration into the global economy. This paper draws on governmentality theory to examine a transnational partnership, the Gateways to the Aerospace Industry Project, which has been mobilised to manage transition risk for young people in the state education system of Queensland, Australia. It argues that globalisation emerges as an effect of knowledge producing practices and programmes that seek to reconfigure the governmental spaces and subjectivities in and around schools and communities.

This article is dealing with two facets: First of all it discusses the experiences made by applying participative evaluation to Chinese pilot projects on the co-operation of School and Enterprise. Here, usually benchmark and distance oriented evaluation approaches are practised and it is the question, whether formative self evaluation approaches have a value for the Chinese stakeholders. At the beginning of the article we explain the reasons for this new co-operation policy. How is co-operation of school and enterprise undertaken in a particular case, here a technical college in Beijing? Then we present the tool in its design and criteria and show some results of an evaluation session. Is it possible to start an effective discussion under the stakeholders involved in this co-operation project: the government, school leaders, company managers and last but not least the students and ordinary teachers. Does this collaborative learning allow better amalgamation of practical and theoretical learning? In the final part, prospect and limits of the new assessment approach on the quality of co-operation activities across institutions is discussed.

Rejecting notions of creativity as self-realisation through free expression, this article argues that such discourses currently driving education policy comprise intellectual technologies for the production of student subjectivities required by neoliberal contexts. Using a governmentality framework, it locates the conditions of possibility for the creative subject within dominant policy articulations of the global knowledge economy and emerging rationalities of risk and uncertainty. The analysis focuses on an industry school partnership formed by a state education system in Queensland, Australia, and several multinational corporations. It examines how the partnership has emerged as a novel neoliberal space for the constitution of new education figures such as the enterprising teacher and the entrepreneurial student-worker. These subjectivities are functional to the devolved governing strategy of social investment, which seeks to achieve a broad reconstitution of relationships between students, schools and industry in Queensland.

This systematic literature review was commissioned by the Health and Community Services Workforce Council (H&CSWC). The project addressed the following research questions: What is the relevant terminology surrounding Australia's career pathways? What career pathways and learning models currently exist within Queensland? What are the international examples of career pathways that might be relevant in the Australian context? Of these models, what factors may predispose their suitability to the health services industry in Queensland and Australia? What are the recommended discussion points for further consultation on career pathways with health industry professionals in Queensland? Two definitions of career pathways were selected for further discussion in this report, one which focussed on education and another with a stronger industry perspective. The literature indicates that when considering workforce development at an industry wide level, career classification structures are interdependent with the definition of scopes of practice, industrial awards and agreements, funding mechanisms and educational pathways.

On 8 December 2008, the Queensland Premier outlined a suite of initiatives in response to the global financial crisis (GFC). One of these initiatives was a 'safety net' program for apprentices and trainees at risk of losing their jobs because of the economic downturn. The Trade Training Taskforce was established to develop and oversee a package of measures to support apprentices and trainees to complete their training. The Taskforce was made up of key representatives from government and industry.
The package of measures was developed around the following four key strategies: (1) maintaining apprenticeship and traineeship commencement levels; (2) retaining apprentices and trainees in training; (3) assisting cancelled apprentices and trainees; and (4) upskilling recently completed apprentices and trainees.
This document outlines the range of actions under each strategy, their implementation, and key progress to date. The document includes the following attachments: Attachment 1 - Trade Training Taskforce membership; Attachment 2 - Trade Training Taskforce terms of reference; Attachment 3 - Apprenticeship and traineeship training.
