The mission of the National Centre for Vocational Education Research (NCVER) is to be Australia's leading provider of quality, independent information on vocational education and training (VET) to governments, the sector, industry, and the community. Its vision is that policy and practice in VET are informed by a sound base of high quality research and analytical evidence. Key highlights for the year include: renewal of the statistical services contract for 2004-05 with the Australian National Training Authority (ANTA); reporting for the first time on school-based apprentices and trainees, apprentices and trainees who were existing workers, and 'traditional apprentices'; providing input into a number of important national reviews; and working with the National Education and Training Statistics Unit within the Australian Bureau of Statistics to review the adequacy of statistical collections in the VET sector. The National Centre for Vocational Education Research Ltd (NCVER) is a not-for-profit company owned by the Commonwealth, state and territory ministers with responsibility for vocational education and training. NCVER's vision is to inform and influence vocational education and training (VET) in Australia through credible, reliable and responsive research and statistical services. NCVER's mission is to be Australia's authoritative source of high-quality, independent information on vocational education and training. NCVER has worked hard during 2013-14 to build the framework for more comprehensive, robust and timely information on the national VET system and its impacts.

The mission of the National Centre for Vocational Education Research (NCVER) is to be Australia's leading provider of quality, independent information relating to vocational education and training (VET) to governments, the sector, industry and the community. Its vision is for policy and practice in VET to be based on sound evidence. NCVER's work during this period took place against a backdrop of significant change in Australia's VET system as administrative responsibilities formerly undertaken by the Australian National Training Authority (ANTA) were transferred to the Australian Department of Education, Science and Training (DEST). In late 2005, the Minister for Vocational and Technical Education, the Hon. Gary Hardgrave MP, announced the review of two major contracts managed by NCVER: the contracts for the national program of VET statistics and the national program of competitive research grants. The report of the review [available in VOCEDplus at TD/TNC 86.660] was released in April 2006. Key highlights for the year included: publishing, for the first time, individual TAFE institute data covering student and course characteristics, and student attainment, satisfaction and employment outcomes; widening the scope of the Student Outcomes Survey to encompass private and community education providers and fee-for-service students from TAFE institutes; launching the redeveloped VOCED website; becoming the national repository on adult literacy and for publications associated with the Workplace English Language and Literacy (WELL) Programme and the National Adult Literacy Project (NALP); and commencing a systematic review on small business. This is the first publicly available report on the annual activities of the National Vocational Education and Training Research and Evaluation (NVETRE) program, managed by the National Centre for Vocational Education Research (NCVER) on behalf of the Commonwealth Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations (DEEWR). It provides an overview of the program and highlights the lessons learned from reports published and events held, presented under the five themes by which NCVER organises its work. It contains a list of the publications arising from the NVETRE program in 2007, as well as a list of events organised as part of the program. Show less

The mission of the National Centre for Vocational Education Research (NCVER) is to provide vocational education and training (VET) information and independent research of the highest quality which is timely and relevant for people making decisions about VET, and fosters national and international understanding so that the sector can contribute fully to the economic and social development of Australia. This annual report reviews NCVER's activities in its 20th year and outlines its aims, achievements, organisation and policy. A highlight for this year was the VOCED research database being endorsed as UNESCO's official database on technical and vocational education and training (TVET) research information. Show less

The National Centre for Vocational Education Research Ltd (NCVER) is a not-for-profit company, owned by the Commonwealth and state and territory ministers with responsibility for vocational education and training. NCVER's mission is to be Australia's leading provider of high-quality, independent information on vocational education and training (VET) to governments, the education sector, industry and the community. In the year 2012-13 NCVER continued to be closely involved with the National Training Reform Agenda. In terms of statistical developments, the major effort has been in positioning the organisation for the introduction of mandatory reporting of student data by all providers, including those who do not currently submit data, and the introduction of a unique student identifier. On the research side, a significant change to the National Vocational Education and Training Research Program has ensured that the research is relevant to the policy needs of governments.

June 2005 marked the end of an era in VET with the Australian National Training Authority (ANTA) being disbanded and its functions taken over by the Australian Department of Education, Science and Training (DEST). Key highlights for this year include: completion of the review of the Australian VET Management Information Statistical Standard (AVETMISS) for VET providers; completion of two major surveys, survey of Indigenous students who took part in training in 2003 and a follow-up survey of young students who took part in training in 2001; and revision of the approach used to estimate recent levels of apprentice and trainee activity to improve their robustness and transparency. Key highlights for this year include: developing a strategy for obtaining information about all recognised training activity, not just activity in the public VET sector and presenting it to the National Training Statistics Committee (NTSC); developing a survey of Indigenous VET students in conjunction with an advisory group representing key stakeholders; and reviewing the content and methodology for the Survey of Employer Views to be conducted in the second half of 2004.
