The Fachhochschule (FH) Brandenburg is a relatively young university for applied sciences and plays a role in supporting regional development. While it has three departments: engineering, informatics and media, and business and management, the FH Brandenburg specialises in informatics and business informatics and has special study programs in security management, medical informatics and energy efficiency. This report presents the findings of a review of current strategies and practices in entrepreneurship support provision at the FH Brandenburg. The report also presents a selection of international learning models with the aim of providing inspiration for new approaches at the FH Brandenburg. This report investigates the following questions: What are current strategies and practices in university entrepreneurship support? How accessible is entrepreneurship support for students and graduates? How well is the university entrepreneurship support integrated into the wider local entrepreneurship support system? This report presents achievements and challenges in light of the above questions and advances recommendations for future action. The assessment framework employed for the review is presented in the annex of this report.

The 2018 World Congress was organized by TAFE Directors Australia with the support of the Victorian TAFE Association and students and faculty of Melbourne's TAFEs. The three-day World Congress was one of Australia's largest gatherings of education and skills leaders, with almost 140 speakers and 44 concurrent sessions, under the theme of Preparing for the Skills Future, Now. Speakers and presenters explored the changing nature of work with particular focus on the impact of advances in technologies and automation on [professional and technical education and training] PTET. The World Congress focussed on solutions to these challenges and provided an opportunity for international delegates to look at their own PTET systems from the outside and compare their readiness to that of other countries.

Matching supply and demand in the labour market in times of structural change will be the key challenge for economic and labour market policy. To make sure that the German economy will remain successful in the future and that everyone will take a share of our prosperity, skilled workers need the right skills and qualifications. A joint assessment of the situation is first required: what is the state of play, and what skill and vocational development needs can we foresee for the future? Trade unions, employers' associations and the Federal Government have sought to answer these questions together in the framework of the Partnership for Skilled Professionals. This resulting foresight study on the skill and vocational development needs over the period to 2030 highlights ways in which the working world is changing and sets out a vision of the future in 2030. It examines the trends regarding general and sector-specific shifts in skill needs. It additionally deduces development requirements and the conditions for the successful transformation of the labour market.

The following paper is focused on recruiting policies of transnational companies (TNCs) and the required competencies, asking if youngsters with an apprenticeship background are seen as being still able to fulfill tasks in a knowledge-based economy. The TNCs rely more and more on academic knowledge for work, sometimes formerly done by skilled workers. Most of our interviewed recruiters of 18 TNCs, based in Germany, England and Switzerland know the advantages of apprenticeships, especially if they have a tradition in dual model countries like Germany and Switzerland. We argue that a modernized apprenticeship which takes academic knowledge more into account, languages (especially English), entrepreneurship and 'soft skills', which is permeable to other learning opportunities as a basis for further education has a good prospect in the near future.

This article examines the fit (or lack thereof) between the competencies needed by the sport industry and the proficiency of sport management students. The authors apply importance-performance analysis as a strategic management tool to analyze the results of two competence-oriented datasets in a German context. They find that students' self-identified proficiency is lower than the importance attributed to proficiency by industry experts. The authors critically discuss the absence of differences between the perceived performance of Bachelor's and Master's degree students and provide strategic recommendations for sport management higher education. The article highlights the development and communication of generic competencies as a unique selling proposition and reflect on the need to improve subject-specific competencies to further professionalize the field of sport management. Based on these results, a critical reflection of curriculum design in sport management higher education is needed.

A considerable number of German multinational enterprises (MNE) are located in the Greater Shanghai Area. German MNE in the industrial sector show an inclination to export German forms of technical training - more specifically German-style dual apprenticeship training - to their worldwide subsidiaries. Within China, this is especially the case for the Greater Shanghai Area, which has established itself as a 'hotspot' for dual apprenticeship training in the last 15 years. This paper explores what makes the Greater Shanghai Area such a 'hotspot' for dual apprenticeship training - in international comparison - by focusing on factors influencing the spatial agglomeration of dual apprenticeship training activities in this region. The paper finds unevenly distributed institutional resources regarding the attraction of German Foreign Direct Investment as well as unevenly distributed resources at the skill formation system level as important influencing factors. Both factors show 'self-reinforcing' dynamics strengthening already existing spatial agglomeration of dual apprenticeship training activities.

This research arose from work commissioned by the Australian Industry and Skills Committee - in the form of a cross sector project looking at the need for digital skills in a range of manufacturing and related industries. The project was managed by IBSA Manufacturing, a Skills Service Organisation, which provides support to the following Industry Reference Committees (IRCs): Aerospace; Furnishing; Manufacturing and Engineering; Process Manufacturing, Recreational Vehicles and Laboratory; Sustainability; and Textiles, Clothing and Footwear. During the course of the project, national consultations were undertaken with more than 40 representatives from large (often multinational) businesses, small and medium businesses, unions, training providers and other VET sector stakeholders.
Many of the individuals involved in the consultations raised questions about how well the VET sector was prepared for the substantial digital changes impacting on the workforce and the manufacturing sector in particular. They questioned whether Training Packages were sufficiently flexible to meet the needs of the manufacturing sector as it responds to growing levels of digital disruption (or what has been termed the 4th Industrial Revolution, or Industry 4.0). The research undertaken to support the project, also identified a vastly greater number of reports and papers focussed on the challenge of upskilling workers for an Industry 4.0 environment, than in relation to the need for specific digital skills for manufacturing and related workers. This report synthesises the research evidence - in relation to both digital skills and the broader challenges of skilling workers for the Industry 4.0 workplace.
