In recent years there have been policy discussions of the potential value of businesses engaging in the school education sector. However, the voice of educators is rarely heard and teachers' perspective is vital to understanding what would ensure positive outcomes from such engagement. This research addresses this by engaging directly with school leaders and teachers around what they want from engagement with business, including reflections on experiences to date.

Apprenticeship has rarely received so much attention as it is getting now. Faced with persistently high levels of youth unemployment and great demand for economic development, the governments of many countries have (re)discovered the benefits that apprenticeship can bring and attempt to revive and expand apprenticeship of their own. The Chinese government is now trying to address the skill shortage and the market mismatch of supply and demand in manufacturing and high technology sectors by policy transfer and grope for the right road to a Modern Apprenticeship with Chinese characteristics. This paper will give an overview of the current development of apprenticeship in China. Section 1 denotes the definition and benefits of apprenticeship; section 2 introduces the development status of Chinese apprenticeship and related governmental actions briefly; section 3 presents a case study on a pilot project between Guangzhou Railway Vocational and Technical College and Internet of Things Association of Guangdong Province; section 4 tries to provide suggestions for the future development of apprenticeship. Evidence is drawn primarily from published secondary sources and reports the pilot schools submitted.

The integration of industry and education in vocational education is related to the direction of vocational education reform and the quality of personnel training. Nowadays, there are institutional obstacles to the integration of industry and education in vocational education in China in terms of government power boundary, governance system, governance model, safeguard measures and environmental atmosphere. Therefore, the author makes an analysis and discussion on the new ideas and strategies for eliminating the obstacles to the integration of industry and education in vocational education. The study found that during the social transition period, the survival and development of vocational and technical education became crucial. And the results of the research show that the integration of production and education in vocational education is an inevitable requirement for the establishment of a modern vocational education system. It is not an activity under the administrative instruction, but an inherent requirement for the development of vocational education.

Observations of talent shortage at the higher end of Singapore's labour market often lead to the assumption that there are particular skill gaps or 'talent deficit' in locals. This study was commissioned by the Institute for Adult Learning to gain a better understanding of how leading companies define and manage corporate talent in a context of rapid technological change. Based on interviews with 146 senior corporate executives and high potential talent in 21 leading transnational corporations (TNCs) and nine local enterprises and start-ups in Singapore, China and India, the study found that Singapore's skills policy has overlooked a vital issue, namely the role of talent markets (i.e. how firms configure their demand for talent, and how this demand interacts with national skill formation systems).

Singapore's fairly flat university system does not signal to companies the elite base that companies can target, leading to Singapore graduates not being favourably positioned as talent in companies. India and China, on the other hand, have a small pool of elite universities that companies can target easily using their 'War for Talent' strategies, creating the pipeline of sponsored talent on a trajectory to top jobs. Moreover, local knowledge commands a significant premium in India and China, in contrast to Singapore's plug-and-play business environment.

Protecting and growing manufacturing jobs into the future is a priority for the Queensland Government, and supporting growth of the beef processing industry is part of a plan for a flourishing Queensland manufacturing sector. This strategy will support one of the state's largest manufacturing industries. It sets out a range of actions to support and develop the beef processing sector, focusing on four priority areas: Priority 1: Enhancing industry engagement and representation; Priority 2: Ensuring efficient movement of livestock and freight (road and rail); Priority 3: Building and retaining a skilled workforce; Priority 4: Investing in supply chain and processing efficiency.

The beef processing industry is well-placed to deliver job opportunities in processing plus a range of trades, administrative and professional roles. Skills shortages in regional areas and temporary skills shortages have been met through both working holiday and skilled visas, however abattoir work is not currently on the Australian Government's list of eligible skilled occupations. The industry is continuing the transition to increased integration of mechanisation and automation, and sophisticated processing and packaging, to deliver shelf-ready products and improve safety. This is expected to create new career opportunities and new training and skills requirements including data analytics and food science and technology. The Manufacturing Skills Working Group, together with the Department of Employment, Small Business and Training (DESBT) will work with industry and the Department of Education on strategies that provide pathways to work for the meat processing industry; and DESBT will continue to work with the National Meat Industry Training Advisory Council Limited on training packages available to the meat processing industry, adapting the packages as the meat processing industry evolves. The government has committed to facilitating access for the manufacturing industry to a consolidated online information resource on management, mentoring and leadership courses in response to industry identifying professional development and skills pathways for management are important for both career progression from the processing floor and improving business operations.
