The purpose of this research paper is to discuss various studies done in the area of measuring the effectiveness of training programmes, and find out the factors (especially the pre-training factors) determining the effectiveness of training programmes. The authors have collected the data from across organisations in order to highlight the area of measuring the effectiveness of training programmes. It has been analysed and a possible model is suggested to overcome weaknesses, mainly emphasising the significance of pre-training factors in determining the effectiveness of training programmes. The study was conducted in central India with 72 [human resources] HR experts/professionals from 36 different organisations. The validity of the result was tested through chi square test. The major findings were 10 different factors determining the effectiveness of training programmes.
