Professional development (PD) refers to any learning opportunity used to maintain and develop professional skills, knowledge, competence, and effectiveness throughout a career. PD helps organisations to improve job performance and staff morale, whilst it helps individuals improve their professional value. Relevant learning opportunities may include but are not limited to: short courses; qualifications; in-house training; workshops; conferences; podcasts; webinars; seminars; professional reading; and informal learning opportunities situated in practice.
