Sustainable development is an important change to vocational education and training (VET) practices and reflects changes that are occurring across the entire labour market. These changes create opportunities for providers and practitioners to conceptualise and establish new VET curriculums that support transitions to more sustainable practices. For business and industry these changes provide the opportunity to develop entrepreneurial ventures through collaboration with the educational sector and broader community. Research in this area centres on: ways to build capabilities and develop skills for sustainability including reskilling; exploring new vocational opportunities; understanding concepts around decent work, green jobs and sustainable economies; and how VET relates to inclusive growth in regional development. Advancing policy development and managing social and human capital are some areas this research impacts directly.
