Students, the main client group of education and training systems, are a very diverse group. This group can include those studying at home or in a different country and under various arrangements such as formal qualifications at all levels, non-credit bearing courses, competency training in the workplace, or learning through mentoring relationships. Non-traditional students can include those beyond traditional school age and those from groups who have been historically under-represented, particularly in post compulsory education. Research in this area focuses on student motivations for learning, participation in, and outcomes of, education and training and the quality of delivery methods.
Ly Thi Tran is a senior lecturer in the School of Education, Deakin University and an Australian Research Council DECRA (Discovery Early Career Researcher Award) fellow.
