Career development may be seen as a lifelong process of managing learning, work, leisure and transitions over the course of an individual’s lifetime. The world of work continues to evolve in response to economic, political and social changes. The idea of career development takes account of this uncertainty as well as the individual’s changing work-related needs and preferences at various life stages.
Career development focuses on providing people with the means to develop the skills to manage these challenges and make informed choices about their working lives. For the individual, career development covers a wide range of activities related to career planning and decision making. Within organisations, it is a key aspect of effective management of human resources.
