Nicaragua's literacy campaign

The Sandinista Literacy Campaign took place in Nicaragua from March to August 1980. This paper discusses the campaign in relation to: reasons for and goals; preparation; governance; curriculum and training; evaluation and outcomes; and difficulties, criticism and lessons learned. The paper also looks at the results of the Sandinista literacy policy during the 1980s and the national literacy policy after 1990.
