Health career pathways: directions for Queensland's health workforce: final report

This systematic literature review was commissioned by the Health and Community Services Workforce Council (H&CSWC). The project addressed the following research questions: What is the relevant terminology surrounding Australia's career pathways? What career pathways and learning models currently exist within Queensland? What are the international examples of career pathways that might be relevant in the Australian context? Of these models, what factors may predispose their suitability to the health services industry in Queensland and Australia? What are the recommended discussion points for further consultation on career pathways with health industry professionals in Queensland? Two definitions of career pathways were selected for further discussion in this report, one which focussed on education and another with a stronger industry perspective. The literature indicates that when considering workforce development at an industry wide level, career classification structures are interdependent with the definition of scopes of practice, industrial awards and agreements, funding mechanisms and educational pathways.
