Employment, structural adjustment and sustainable growth in Mexico
This study analyses the impact of slow growth since the early 1980s on the Mexican labour market through a comparison of Mexico’s employment performance with that of other Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) countries in labour force participation ratio, occupational structure and output per worker. The analysis reveals that existing employment problems related to relatively low participation rates and the high proportion of workers employed in agriculture, have been added to by a large increase in underemployment in the tertiary sectors of the economy.
