Student and faculty transnational mobility in higher education
This article provides an introduction to the history and the various types of academic mobility. An overview of recent statistical trends (e.g. figures and proportions for participants in mobility, and destinations of mobile students and staff) and a discussion of global structures of mobility flows is given. This is followed by an analysis of student motivations to study abroad and the impacts and outcomes of mobility on their further study and career choices on the basis of new research results. The article concludes with an outlook on the future of academic mobility.
