Bricklaying apprenticeship training needs in Victoria

This project was funded by a grant from the Victorian Ministry of Employment and Training and was undertaken with the co-operation of the Victorian Building and Construction Industry Training Council Ltd. The project was initiated by the Victorian Operative Bricklayers Society and the Victorian Brick Manufacturers Association. These organisations expressed concern over the reduction in the number of bricklaying apprentices in training. As this trend may result in shortages of tradesmen for future years. this study was commissioned to ascertain what factors affect the number of students entering into and completing bricklaying apprenticeships. The recommendations made to remedy the present situation were derived from existing statistical data and publications and information gathered at interviews conducted with people involved with the building industry.
