Destinations 2000: school leavers who participated in ECEF-funded programs

This report examines the employment and training outcomes of students who participated in ECEF-funded local partnerships in 2000 and left school in that same year (a report on outcomes for the 1999 cohort is indexed at TD/TNC 69.485). What happens to students when they leave school is examined in terms of the national picture, industry, gender comparisons, young indigenous people, and young people with a disability. The report also discusses the relationship between work placements, apprenticeships/traineeships and further studies. Positive outcomes were revealed for young indigenous people and young people with a disability. Indicators of the effectiveness of student work placements were that: (1) 70% of respondents were either in full-time work or full-time study; (2) only 10% of respondents were unemployed, compared to a national unemployment rate of 17%; and (3) 65% indicated that their work placements were instrumental in helping them choose their job or study.
