Skill trends under capitalism and the socialisation of production
One of the most prominent theories of skill, the Labour Process Theory (LPT), is grounded heavily in Marxist theory. In this chapter, the author argues that 'LPT has frequently been one-sided in its reading of Marx and that this one-sidedness has hobbled our ability to understand trends in skill'. An alternative reading of Marx that would generate a better understanding of the nature of skill and the changes in skill associated with the development of capitalism is suggested.
