Vocational education and training in the Nordic countries
The Nordic countries (Denmark, Iceland, Finland, Norway and Sweden) have much in common. Their common cultural and legislative heritage has led to closely parallel educational structures and ideas. The characteristics of the vocational education system of each country are described. Overall, 85-90 per cent of each age cohort in the Nordic countries leaving compulsory education immediately continue their education at either the general upper secondary school or a vocational school.
