Fanning the winds of change: crisis or opportunity: adult education, community education, continuing education

The conference theme 'Fanning the winds of change: crisis or opportunity' was well chosen as it focuses on the rapid developments in education taking place in Australia and elsewhere at this time. It reflects current uncertainties and difficulties with adjusting to new circumstances and at the same time the motto foreshadows new horizons for adult and community education. The Dawkins proposals clearly favour an education system which seeks to develop human resources leading to the future economic welfare of the nation. Adult and community education through their very flexibility have much potential in creating opportunities at relatively low cost to the tax paying community.
