Review of the Apprenticeship and Traineeship Act 2001: Section 85 of the Apprenticeship and Traineeship Act 2001

The Apprenticeship and Traineeship Act 2001 regulates the apprenticeship and traineeship system in New South Wales, setting out the roles and responsibilities of the Commissioner for Vocational Training, employers, apprentices, trainees and other bodies involved in the apprenticeship and traineeship system. A review of the Act was undertaken in accordance with Section 85 of the Act to determine whether: (a) the policy objectives remain valid; and (b) the terms of the Act remain appropriate for securing those objectives. A discussion paper was prepared by the Department to guide the consultation process. The overall finding of the review was that all the Act's objectives remain valid, particularly in relation to meeting the State's workforce development needs by supporting growth in and expansion of the apprenticeship and traineeship system.
