Training and Skills Commission annual report [2003-2020]

The Training and Skills Commission (the Commission) began operations on 1 July 2003, under new legislation, the 'Training and Skills Development Act 2003' (the Act). The Act charges the Commission with wide roles in planning, policy and regulation of vocational and adult community education and training, and promoting links between these and the schooling and university sectors of education. The Commission also advises on the links between employment policy and programs. The Commission was re-established on 1 September 2008, under the 'Training and Skills Development Act 2008' (TSD Act), to assist, advise and make recommendations to the Minister responsible for vocational education and training (VET) on the skills and workforce development priorities for South Australia. The current Act also established two reference groups, the Access and Participation Reference Group (previously Adult Community Education) and the Quality Reference Group (previously Training Regulation), to advise and assist the Commission until 2015 when the work of the reference groups was assumed by the Commission. The powers with respect to registering providers and accrediting courses were referred to the National Regulator on 26 March 2012. The current standing committees are the Traineeship and Apprenticeship Committee, and the eight Industry Skills Councils (ISC) formally re-established by the Training and Skills Commission on the 22 November 2018.
