The UK hospitality sector is the third biggest private sector employer in the UK with more than 2.9 million employees , but it is on course for a catastrophic staffing shortage of more than a million workers over the next decade as it struggles to deal with retention. Workforce management software company Deputy worked in combination with YouGov to survey over 1000 hospitality employees, gathering information on their status and views on the UK hospitality sector. This report presents findings from this survey which reveal that low pay and benefits, unsociable working hours, a lack of training and development, high staff turnover, insufficient government protections, and a 'Brexodus' of EU workers may predict a coming skills shortage in the sector.
