One fifth of first-year university students drop out of their degrees across Australia each year. While it has traditionally been the responsibility of high schools to help young people explore their further education options, universities also have a role to play in educating future students at the high school level in order to increase retention rates and ensure young people are benefiting from their university experience. This report explores this issue and helps universities create a better strategy to reduce student dropout rates. The data for this report stems from four national surveys conducted between 2017-19. [Over] 7,000 responses [were received] across all surveys from Gen Z youth aged 15-24.
