This special issue, entitled 'The influence of PISA on education policies', examines the effect of the OECD Programme for International Students Assessment (PISA) on national or subnational education policies, their orientation, their conception, their implementation and their evaluation. 'Influence' for the purpose of this collection of articles is defined as a relation between actors where one leads others to do something and continue doing it where they may not otherwise have begun or, once begun, continued.
