Employability of Bachelor of Arts graduates

This project arose from a 2008 [Australian Learning and Teaching Council] ALTC-funded Bachelor of Arts Scoping Project which recommended a number of further studies, including the employability of Bachelor of Arts (BA) graduates. It is evident from the literature that the employability of generalist degree graduates (such as the BA) is subject to debate, where the traditional pedagogy of the degree is challenged by more professional or vocational types of programs across universities in Australia. The current project was funded by the former ALTC (now the Australian Government Office for Learning and Teaching) to conduct a two-year study into BA employability in Australasia. The lead institution, the University of Adelaide, collaborated with four other universities: the University of Sydney, James Cook University, Flinders University and the University of Otago (NZ), providing a cross-section of three of the region's oldest universities with two newer ones. These five institutions made up the case study group. A further seven universities were selected to act as a reference group for the study.
