Women's education in the Sudan
Women in Sudan are seen primarily as wives, mothers and family care takers. Historically, educational opportunities have been limited. However, the last two decades have seen steady progress in women's education. This paper provides an overview of women's education from the Turco-Egyptian rule (1921-1884) to the 1990s and concludes that while women's education in Sudan is progressing well, traditional ideology is still prevalent and policies and strategies are needed that will remove the constraints in rural and remote areas and ensure the continuity of girls in education.
