Abstract:

This paper presents a chronology of the events, reports and discussion papers that have led to the establishment of a competency-based vocational education and training system. Key events took place within the period 1980-1992. At the Assessment and Standards in Vocational Education and Training Conference, held in Adelaide on October 1-3, 1990, Michael Murphy, from the Commonwealth Department of Employment, Education and Training, identified key reports and papers that contributed to the movement towards a competency-based approach.
