The early careers of 1980 graduates: work histories, job tenure, career mobility and occupational choice

Graduate manpower is crucial to many sectors of the British economy and has a relative importance beyond its numerical size in the labour force. Graduates hold senior administrative and management positions in most sectors of the economy and constitute the bulk of the workforce in some. Hence the graduate labour market is of great significance to employment and manpower policy.

The survey sampled university, polytechnic and college graduates. It excluded overseas, dental and medical graduates.
