Annual survey report 2006: learning and development

CIPD, the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development, produce a series of annual surveys and reports that provide current analysis on topical issues relating to general personnel management and human resource training and development in the UK. This survey report contains data on current and emerging trends and issues in learning, training and development, focusing on the following key issues faced by the human resources profession: developing talent; developing a coaching culture; changes in workplace learning; involvement in organisational change activities; economic influences on training and development; training expenditure and budgets; and demonstrating the value of learning, training and development. Key findings of this survey include: developing high-potential individuals and growing future senior managers are the two main objectives for talent management activities; 79% of respondents report using coaching activities; on-the-job training is identified as the most effective form of learning by 39% of respondents; only 25% of respondents believed that e-learning had significantly altered learning and training offerings; and funding for training decreased for 22% of respondents in the past 12 months.
