The Personal Services sector is a diverse and essential industry dedicated to fulfilling the personal and well-being needs of individuals and society. From beauty and wellness to lifestyle, funeral, and domestic services, this sector plays a pivotal role in enhancing people's lives and overall satisfaction. This Workforce Planning Report (WFPR) focuses on the SIF (Funeral Services), SHB (Hairdressing and Beauty Services), and SFL (Floristry) training packages within the Personal Services sector and the occupations related to those training packages. The Personal Services subsectors have their own individual identities. The collection of subsectors is often clustered together for ease of reference, but industry stakeholders see their needs as unique and distinct.
The WFPR offers a comprehensive overview of the Personal Services sector's workforce. It highlights challenges and opportunities within the vocational education and training (VET) sector. The report outlines our initial focus areas, including: key challenges, data-driven insights, training and education, workforce strategies, policy and program alignment, actionable insights, and stakeholder collaboration. These focus areas will guide our upcoming efforts and stakeholder consultations, providing a strategic approach to managing industry challenges.
Developed in consultation with a diverse range of stakeholders, the WFPR begins with a snapshot of the Personal Services sector and key issues and challenges facing the industry, which includes understanding current and emerging workforce needs, understanding training challenges, and training product analysis. The following sections step through the workforce insights and skill needs, training developments to provide further background on the Personal Services sector and the workforce strategies and measures in place, including details of the Personal Services sector and its subcomponents and mapping of national as well as state and territory initiatives. The WFPR concludes with the current and planned stakeholder engagement efforts.
