A program of educational reforms initiated by the United Kingdom (UK) government aimed to make post-16 education broader and more flexible, to encourage young people to study more subjects, and to provide simpler combinations of academic and vocational subjects. These reforms were intended to encourage more participation in post-16 education and improve student retention and academic achievement. Curriculum 2000 was introduced in September 2000 and provided a range of new and revised qualifications at advanced level. The qualifications have been developed primarily for 16-19 year olds to provide greater breadth and flexibility in the post-16 curriculum. The new qualifications complement other established national qualifications. Curriculum 2000+2 documents the experience of institutions and learners in the 18 months since the reforms were introduced. Using a series of case studies, schools, sixth form and further education (FE) colleges, the report describes the implementation issues faced during the first two years and how they were addressed. The report covers areas such as Key Skills, progression, raising achievement, the examination process and assessment. In addition, the report includes a summary of comments made by Curriculum 2000 students who participated in the Learning and Skills Development Agency (LSDA) focus groups and a discussion of how the reforms will influence the work of institutions in the future.

It examines the likely challenges for institutions in preparing for a second year of advanced level programs along with a new round of year one programs (year one and year two refer to the first and second years of programs - years 12 and 13).
