Foundation skills banner

Foundation skills refers to the combination of English language, literacy and numeracy (i.e. listening, speaking, reading, writing, digital literacy, and use of mathematical ideas) and employability skills (e.g. problem solving, collaboration, and self-management). Foundation skills are imperative for greater workforce participation, productivity and social inclusion. Practice and policy aspects which focus on improving funding processes, delivery and access to foundation skills training are of particular interest to researchers in this area. These perspectives also span Indigenous and ethnic communities, industry, volunteer and broader community settings. Topics include adult literacy and approaches/outcomes of teaching and learning. Also covered are the professional development needs of adult language, literacy and numeracy practitioners and the transformation of support that is available for specific student cohorts within the vocational education and training (VET) system.
