On the causes of declines in the labor force participation rate

The labor force participation rate in the US has been in decline since around 2000. In this report the author looks at the underlying reasons given for nonparticipation that are available in the Current Population Survey (CPS) micro data to present a decomposition of the declining participation rate between 2000 and 2013.
