The Council has adopted the resolution on better integrating lifelong guidance into lifelong learning strategies. Four priorities areas have been identified: (1) encourage the lifelong acquisition of career management skills; (2) facilitate access by all citizens to guidance services; (3) develop quality assurance in guidance provision; and (4) encourage coordination and cooperation among the various national, regional and local stakeholders.

Preparing young Australians for an ever-changing workforce is a growing challenge. What career professionals provide is key to getting young people into the workforce. This infographic shows that career practitioners working in schools are under resourced and time poor, in turn affecting young Australians' ability to transition successfully and enter the workforce. Over half of all career practitioners are working part time in their role and of those, just one in three are able to devote the entirety of their time to career education and guidance.

This collection of stories reveals the multiple layers of uncertainty people are facing at the moment due to the [Coronavirus Disease 2019] COVID-19 public health emergency - and their own reflections on the challenges that may lie ahead. In this collection, we highlight the experiences of ten 'millennial' and 'Generation Y' workers living in Ireland, aged 32 to 41 years old, who are now facing an imminent second economic recession at a crucial moment in their working lives. We asked participants specific questions concerning if and how their career trajectories were impacted by the previous financial crisis in 2008, and the ways that the public health emergency and the lockdown has affected them to date, both personally and professionally. We also asked participants to share their perspectives on how they feel the government has responded to the current crisis and the types of thinking that should be prioritised in the post-pandemic period. We specifically asked participants to share their thoughts on 'austerity' as a potential policy option, as they have lived and worked throughout the last 12 years during which this approach underpinned the recovery strategy of the Irish government.

The Australian Library and Information Association's (ALIA's) Framework of Skills, Knowledge and Ethics for the Library and Information Services Workforce is the central component of the Professional Pathways project led by ALIA in collaboration with library and information service sectors across Australia. The framework is a resource that distils and presents the skills, knowledge and ethics needed to work effectively in the Library and Information Services (LIS) sector and to provide high-quality services to library communities.
Comprising three domains: core domains, professional knowledge domains and active professionalism, it is designed to be used at all levels and across different roles in the sector. Each of the domains has a more detailed breakdown, which may be further tailored to roles or sectors. As an Australian-based framework it was important to ensure that the Framework reflects accurately the skills, knowledge and ethics required for work with First Nations collections and communities. To this end, the Framework has two dedicated First Nations Domains developed in close consultation with the ALIA Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Expert Advisory Group. The framework can be used by individuals working in LIS at all levels and at the organisational level.
