Apprenticeships in England are undergoing change and a new style of apprenticeship has been developed to accommodate the changing needs of employers, learners and providers. These new apprenticeships are known as 'Trailblazer' apprenticeships and they aim to give employers control in designing apprenticeships, increase the flexibility of delivery, simplify the funding system, and increase the effectiveness of training. A 'Trailblazer' is made up of a group of employers who work together to design new apprenticeship standards for occupations within their sectors. This set of resources provides guidance for groups of employers (Trailblazers) on proposing and developing a new apprenticeship standard. An apprenticeship standard shows what an apprentice will be doing and the skills they need. The guidance sets out the process and policy on: (1) applying to develop an apprenticeship standard; (2) drafting the standard and assessment plan; and (3) using a standard. Show less

This document gives an overview of how the Quality Assurance System will work. The Quality Assurance System aims to: (1) Improve the quality of post-16 education and training consistently through robust self-evaluation and appropriate support and challenge; (2) Provide accurate and appropriate information about the quality and range of education and training provision, to enable learners and employers to make informed decisions about where and what they want to learn and to enable commissioners to fund provision that meets the needs of learners and employers; (3) Give learners and employers confidence that the programme they choose will be delivered to the highest possible standards; and (4) Assure those who pay for the learning that their investment is making a real difference and leading to a world-class education service.

Through the National Cyber Security Programme (NCSP) the Department for Business Innovation and Skills (BIS), Government Communications Headquarters (GCHQ) and the Cabinet Office have partnered to lead and support activity to increase cyber security skills at all levels of education, and amongst the cyber security workforce over the past two and a half years. This work has been taken forward in close collaboration with business and the education and skills sectors. This guide has been produced in response to calls from businesses for a current and clear listing of the key opportunities for them to engage with cyber security skills and capability initiatives, particularly those that receive public funding. The initiatives comprise those supporting schools, those supporting vocational and higher education, and those supporting new or existing cyber security professionals. Show less
