As a major contribution to the United Nations Decade of Education for Sustainable Development, InWEnt - Capacity Building International, in partnership with the UNESCO-UNEVOC International Centre for Technical and Vocational Education and Training hosted an international experts' meeting in Bonn, Germany on 6-7 November 2007. The purpose of the meeting, titled 'Corporate social responsibility and education for sustainable development: advancing the partnership' was to consider examples and strategies for building global capacity for integrating education, training and capacity building Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programs in private and public organisations. It also considered how [technical and vocational education and training] TVET systems and institutions can ensure their students enter the workforce with knowledge, skills and aptitudes suitable for working in organisations with a strong CSR orientation. As such, the meeting was a follow-up to an international consultation on 'Education for sustainable development: engaging the corporate sector', also held in Bonn, 23-25 May 2007, and convened by UNESCO-UNEVOC and UNESCO Headquarters Paris, in close partnership with InWEnt and other partners.

This brief progress report outlines the activities of UNESCO's International Project on Technical and Vocational Education (UNEVOC) between 1997 to 1999 and is divided into three program areas: (1) International exchange of ideas, experience and studies on policy issues; (2) Strengthening of national research and development capabilities; and (3) Facilitating access to data bases and documentation: strengthening the UNEVOC network. Global developments including the transition to greener economies, the application of digital technologies in the world of work, and the [Coronavirus Disease 2019] COVID-19 pandemic, amongst others, are changing the way we live and work. These developments are driving technical and vocational education and training (TVET) systems to improve their capacity to identify the future skills demands and to expand access to skills development opportunities. As TVET adapts itself to the impacts of significant social, environmental, and economic disruptions, innovative practices emerge with the potential to rejuvenate the future of skills development. Schools, training centres and colleges have the potential to play a leading role to drive innovation in their local skills and innovation ecosystem.

This practical guide proposes a framework for TVET institutions to increase their capacities to drive innovation. The framework is developed on the basis of UNESCO-UNEVOC's Skills for Innovation Hubs (i-hubs) initiative, which included the participation of ten pilot TVET institutions from Africa, Asia and the Pacific and Europe. The practical guide provides a systematic, institution-wide, measurable and evidence-based methodology that enables TVET institutions to streamline innovation into their strategic planning, products and services, ecosystem engagement, and teaching and learning processes. By applying the UNEVOC Innovation Framework, TVET institutions can assess their preparedness to innovate, take actions to innovate learning processes and products and services, and develop concrete outputs for improvement. In doing so, institutions can inspire other entities in their local ecosystem to pursue the path of innovation.

This document contains the final report of the Second International Congress on Technical and Vocational Education held in Seoul, Republic of Korea, from 26-30 April 1999. The Congress was organised by UNESCO in cooperation with the Government of the Republic of Korea. The principal objective of the Congress was to demonstrate to governments, industries, and other stakeholders, the importance of technical and vocational education (TVE) to the development of nations. The Congress provided a forum for the exchange of experience and a discussion of policy and practice reforms designed to increase the relevance of TVE to employment and social needs in the future. The Congress focused on the following themes: challenges to TVE in the 21st century; improving systems providing education and training throughout life; innovating the education and training process; providing TVE for all individuals; the changing roles of government and other social partners in TVE; and enhancing international cooperation in TVE. The document briefly lists the regional preparatory conferences, the opening of the Congress, parallel events and the closing session.
