This publication provides a snapshot of Australia’s publicly funded vocational education and training (VET) sector for 2011. It presents national information about students and participation, courses and qualifications, module/unit of competency enrolments, hours of delivery and full-year training equivalents. State or territory and training provider breakdowns of the data are available as Excel files. In addition, selected data cubes containing information on student characteristics, students by courses, students by industry skills council training package groupings, qualification completions by industry skills council training package groupings and subject (modules/units of competency) enrolments are also available. Detailed statistics for Australia, the eight states and territories, and the VET operations of the Commonwealth Department of Education, Science and Training (DEST) are given and information is provided on how public VET in Australia is financed and where the money is spent. The information presented here includes summaries that focus on: revenues and expenses (to show financial performance); assets and liabilities (to show financial position); cash flows (to show how activities are financed); and trends in total revenues and expenses. This publication provides a summary of data relating to students, programs, subjects and training providers in Australia's government-funded vocational education and training (VET) system, defined as all Commonwealth and state or territory government-funded training delivered by technical and further education (TAFE) institutes, other government providers (such as universities), private providers and community education providers. It includes a new section of government-funded subject enrolments, with a particular focus on stand-alone subjects. To facilitate insights into stand-alone subject activity, the publication and DataBuilder show subject enrolments by subject type and separates accredited units by their identifiers and names.

In 2022, 1,196,535 students were enrolled in government-funded VET, comprised of: 1,137,785 students enrolled in nationally recognised training and 89,630 students enrolled in non-nationally recognised training. In 2022, compared with 2021: students numbers decreased by 4.3 per cent to 1,196,535; full-year training equivalents (FYTEs) decreased by 2.6 per cent to 472,780; students enrolled in nationally recognised VET decreased by 5.1 per cent to 1,137,785 - students enrolled in nationally recognised programs decreased by 3.0 per cent to 1,056,195 and students enrolled in stand-alone nationally recognised subjects decreased by 9.9 per cent to 24,330; and students enrolled in non-nationally recognised training increased by 3.5 per cent to 89,630. An estimated 7.0 per cent of the Australian resident population aged 15 to 64 years participated in government-funded VET in 2022. Over the five-year period from 2018 to 2022, student numbers increased by 7.4 per cent to 1,196,535.

This publication provides a summary of data relating to students, programs, subjects and training providers in Australia's government-funded vocational education and training (VET) system (defined as Commonwealth and state/territory government-funded training). The data in this publication cover the period of 1 January to 30 June 2017. For comparative purposes, it also examines this data against previously submitted data for the 1 January to 30 June 2015 and 2016 periods, and also for the 1 January to 31 March 2017 period.

In the first six months to 30 June 2017, there were 804,700 students enrolled in the government-funded VET system. There was a 5.3 per cent decrease in the number of students undertaking government-funded training in the first six months of 2017 compared with the corresponding period in 2016. An additional 159,900 students were reported in the January to June 2017 period compared with the January to March 2017 period, which represents a 24.8 per cent increase. In the six months to 30 June 2017, students in the government-funded VET system comprised: 57.2 per cent attending TAFE institutes and other government providers; 88.2 per cent enrolled in an Australian Qualifications Framework level program; 44.3 per cent studying certificate III programs; and 17.6 per cent enrolled in engineering and related technologies. A total of 1760 training providers delivered government-funded VET in the first six months of 2017, a decrease from 1787 reported in the first six months of 2016. Please note: Quarterly data submissions are cumulative allowing additional data to be reported and previous data corrected. Quarterly data must be interpreted with caution.

This publication provides a summary of data relating to students, programs, subjects and training providers in Australia's government-funded vocational education and training (VET) system, defined as all Commonwealth and state/territory government-funded training delivered by technical and further education (TAFE) institutes, other government providers (such as universities), private providers and community education providers.

In 2020, 1,191,400 students were enrolled in government-funded VET. They included 1,141,300 students enrolled in nationally recognised training and 92,300 students enrolled in non-nationally recognised training. In 2020, compared with 2019: student numbers increased by 3.5 per cent to 1,191,400; full-year training equivalents (FYTEs) decreased by 11.7 per cent to 433,300; students enrolled in nationally recognised programs increased by 1.3 per cent to 1,005,800; students enrolled in stand-alone nationally recognised subjects decreased by 22.2 per cent to 27,100; and students enrolled in non-nationally recognised training decreased by 18.6 per cent to 92,300. An estimated 7.0 per cent of the Australian resident population aged 15 to 64 years participated in government-funded VET in Australia in 2020. From 2016 to 2020, student numbers have decreased by 1.0 per cent to 1,191,400.

This publication provides a summary of data relating to students, programs, subjects and training providers in Australia's government-funded vocational education and training (VET) system (defined as Commonwealth and state/territory government-funded training). The data in this publication cover the period of 1 January to 31 March 2019. For comparative purposes, it also examines this data against previously submitted data for the 1 January to 31 March 2015 to 2018 periods.

In the first three months to 31 March 2019, 657,300 students were enrolled in government-funded VET. They included: 638,800 students enrolled in nationally recognised training and 33,000 students enrolled in non-nationally recognised training. Government-funded program enrolments comprised: 93.2 per cent in nationally recognised programs; 3.6 per cent in locally developed programs; and 3.2 per cent in non-nationally recognised programs. 91.1 per cent of program enrolments were in qualifications: 82.9 per cent of program enrolments were in training packages; 8.3 per cent were in accredited qualifications; 48.7 per cent of qualifications were at certificate III level; and 19.1 per cent of qualifications were at certificate IV level.

In the January to March 2019 period, improvements in reporting practices in the Northern Territory and the Australian Capital Territory have affected training activity reported for the current period (see explanatory notes 16 and 17). In addition, there are issues in the January to March 2018 data, with South Australia and Western Australia under-reporting training activity for the first quarter of 2018 (refer to explanatory notes 13 and 14). Consequently, caution must be used in the interpretation of these data, particularly quarter to quarter comparisons.

This publication presents estimated completion rates for government-funded vocational education and training (VET) programs commenced in Australia between 2010 and 2014. Program completion rates are presented by state and territory, program level and field of education. The corresponding subject load pass rates are also shown. The publication applies the same scope as used in 'Australian vocational education and training statistics: government-funded students and courses 2015' [indexed at TD/TNC 124.730]. This is broadly defined as all activity delivered by government providers and government-funded activity delivered by community and other registered providers.

Highlights for government-funded programs commencing in 2014 are: the national estimated completion rate for government-funded VET programs at certificate I and above was 38.0 per cent, up from 34.5 per cent for programs commenced in 2013; by program level, government-funded VET programs at certificate III (42.9 per cent), certificate IV (41.6 per cent), and diploma and above (41.0 per cent) had the highest national estimated completion rates; by field of education, government-funded VET programs in society and culture (49.5 per cent), management and commerce (47.2 per cent), and natural and physical sciences (44.9 per cent) had the highest national estimated completion rates; and for students in full-time study aged 25 years and under with no prior post-school program completion, the national estimated completion rate for government-funded VET programs at certificate I and above was 51.6 per cent, up from 41.6 per cent for programs commenced in 2013.
