This publication presents detailed information from responses of over 66,000 graduates of TAFE courses to the national survey conducted by AC Nielson on behalf of the National Centre for Vocational Education Research (NCVER) and which was funded by the Australian National Training Authority (ANTA). The survey involved sending a questionnaire to all 1997 graduates (120,775) of TAFE institutes in Australia who completed a certificate, advanced certificate, associate diploma, advanced diploma or bachelors degree of at least 200 hours or one semester in duration and had an Australian address as their usual address. A total of 66,607 graduates responded, a response rate of 55.2 per cent. The aim of the survey was to measure vocational education and training (VET) graduates employment, further study destinations and opinions of courses completed, providing national, State and institute level information to assist in administration, planning and evaluation to support the national strategy for VET. This document is one of a series of industry training monographs designed to provide readers with an overview of occupational trends and the current training effort in each industry in Australia.
The transport and storage industry is a diverse sector that covers all forms of transport operation, including road, rail, air and sea, as well as related services to transport such as stevedoring, port operations, customs agencies and travel agencies. The industry's employment has been affected by changes in the Australian and world economy over the last decade and has fluctuated in line with these movements. It is characterised by male, full-time employment and appears to receive only a small level of direct government funding for the provision of vocational education and training (VET). In terms of government funded hours of VET per employee it receives the lowest level of funding of all industry training areas.
This document is one of a series of 17 individual monographs which are entered into VOCED from TD/TNC 55.12 to TD/TNC 55.28. This summary report provides a profile of both technical and further education (TAFE) institutes and private providers in the provision of publicly funded vocational education and training (VET). It provides data on student characteristics and outcomes for 59 TAFE institutes and 1044 private providers of publicly funded VET in Australia. It aims to demonstrate the variation between registered training organisations (RTOs) in the provision of VET and to provide national indicators of learning and skills outcomes for TAFE institutes and private providers. The statistics were derived from the National VET Provider Collection and the Student Outcomes Survey, maintained by the National Centre for Vocational Education and Research (NCVER). Show less
