This publication provides financial data for vocational education and training (VET) in Australia. It includes information on revenues and expenses, assets and liabilities, and cash flows for the 2000 calendar year. Comparisons with 1999 data have been made where possible. Figures are given for the whole of Australia, the individual States and Territories, and for the Australian National Training Authority (ANTA). This financial information is a primary source about how VET in Australia is financed and where the money is spent. The information presented has been extracted from the accrual-based statements prepared by the States, Territories and ANTA on their VET activity.

This publication provides information on persons undertaking vocational training through contract of training arrangements. It includes all those employed under contracts of training and includes apprentices, Australian Traineeship System trainees and other relevant forms of employment-based training. The data provided was collected from State and Territory training authorities, and the four volumes cover the period 1 July 1995 to 30 June 1996. The four volumes are: (1) 1995/96 quarter 1: 1 July to 30 September 1995; (2) 1995/96 quarter 2: 1 October to 31 December 1995; (3) 1995/96 quarter 3: 1 January to 31 March 1996; and (4) 1995/96 quarter 4: 1 April to 30 June 1996. A timeline of major policy changes affecting VET in Australia from the mid-1970s to the present is provided to give the summary information context. The data tables which follow present student numbers by selected training characteristics for the full period 1981-2014. For the period 1996-2014, a more detailed breakdown of the data is provided, with student, subject enrolment, program enrolment, and program completion figures presented by selected training characteristics.

This publication presents preliminary figures for the number of students, subject enrolments, hours of delivery and full-year training equivalents relating to Australia's government-funded (public) vocational education and training (VET) system for 2014. As the figures are preliminary, they may be subject to change as further processing of the data is undertaken. Final data, with more detail and a wider range of variables, are expected to be released in late June 2015. This publication supersedes the 'Australian vocational education and training statistics: students and courses' series.
Highlights include: the number of students enrolled in the publicly funded VET system declined by 3.5 per cent in 2014 compared with 2013; student numbers increased in the Northern Territory (9.2 per cent), Queensland (4.9 per cent), Tasmania (1.8 per cent) and New South Wales (0.1 per cent); subject enrolments declined to 15.9 million in 2014, a 1.2 per cent decrease from the previous year; hours of delivery and full-year training equivalents both increased by 1.1 per cent between 2013 and 2014; students undertaking diploma or higher qualifications increased by 5.9 per cent between 2013 and 2014, while certificate qualifications (certificates I-IV) declined by 4.3 per cent overall for the same period.

This report consists of two volumes. Part 1 deals with changing patterns in apprenticeship commencements between 1987-88 and 1993-94. This part deals with changes in commencement patterns by age and trade group. The evidence presented indicates that while commencements in different trade groups have altered greatly in recent years, the main trend has been an aging of commencing apprentices. Information is presented in both chart and tabular form. Part 2 deals with changes in the VET [vocational education and training] sector (especially TAFE) in the years 1991 to 1994. Staff of the Review indicated an interest in: changes in numbers of persons; changes in numbers of enrolments; changes in the number of contact hours; and changes in the course type (both stream and nominal length), by age and sex. Analysis of these variables appears in Part 2, in either chart or tabular form. While some comments have been made to draw attention to patterns, no conclusions are drawn about the changes in levels of participation in the VET sector from 1991 to 1994. The data, however, indicate considerable variations between the different states and territories.
